Personal Project - Blowpipes and Bulldozers
"Blowpipes and Bulldozers" is an interactive
project that I designed and built 20 years ago in Director. The
social and environmental issues it addresses are even more relevant
today. It is something I still feel very passionate about.
The subject is multifold: partly it is about the
Penan, an endangered nomadic tribe in Borneo, and their rainforest
homeland. It was inspired by a video by John Werner and uses
much of his footage. Also it was an experiment to see if this
technology is useful as an educational and political tool for
raising popular awareness of social and environmental issues.
The project was featured
on the Japanese NHK television documentary, "The
Network Frontier" and
on the cover Asahi, a popular Japanese technical magazine. See
Force for Good for
my rather impassioned presentation. More info available in boing
boing interview.
